Del Mar's 2008 thoroughbred season will open on July 16th with a swirl of parties, shows and events. This seaside track is celebrating its 69th year of racing and this season promises to be filled with more fun than any other on record! Music, giveaways, galas, cook-offs and special events will accompany the racing experience with some sort of extravaganza nearly every day. The hugely popular Four O'clock Friday concert series is back, featuring racing until dusk followed by sunset performances on the big stage in the Plaza de Mexico. Big name bands in queue this year include Ziggy Marley, Gnarls Barkley and Devo. Acclaimed jockeys and trainers will make appearances on Donuts Days. There will be free handicapping seminars every weekend, two book signings, and a Family Day and Family Weekends in the infield on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a Western Chili Cook-off Party in the Paddock, and a closing day bash signifying the official sendoff of the season's racing fanfare. The 2008 celebration will include an honorarium recognizing the leading owner, breeder and jockey amidst the rocking rhythms of The English Beat.
